I have been listening to Brene' Brown's Power of Vulnerability in my car this past week. It's an AMAZING book that talks about shame, guilt, vulnerability, perfectionism, and JOY!
If you wonder why you can't let loose or really and truly enjoy yourself in certain situations, you should listen to this book. I realized I often feel pure joy and rarely express pure joy.
You know the joy you feel when you hold a small baby and they laugh or smile at you...they're adorable and you're literally bursting! That's the kind of joy I want to feel and express!
I notice that when someone is expressing this type of joy, we often get uncomfortable around them. We think "what a weirdo" or "she needs to calm down" because we don't know what to do with this.
What would happen if you were just holding space for that person while they were in the midst of their joy? What would happen if you just smiled and watched them enjoy themselves?
The truth is, what would happen is you would feel a little bit of their joy rub off on you and you'd walk away smiling. Try it!
